All Things Healthy!

Since Lee had a brain tumor, I started on a quest to look more closely at ingredients. I wanted to live as non-toxic as possible. While I haven’t changed everything, I have started with some amazing products. I have many friends that often ask for links or information on the items I use. So, here is a list! 1. Live Healthillie This site is a one-stop shop for your non-toxic essentials. Each item they sell has been carefully vetted to be clean and trustworthy. 2. Paleovalley I am obsessed with their products - so much so that I subscribe monthly to their bone broth protein powder (I like caramel that I add to coffee) and 100% grass fed beef sticks (my favorite is venison).  “Paleovalley stands out by committing to genuine, whole-food ingredients that support your health as nature intended. We prioritize quality over cost, ensuring our products are organic and free from unnecessary additives.” 3. Hooga Red light therapy enhances skin health and boosts cellular energy. I love u...

Milk

Almost all my life I’ve had a problem with milk. As a child, I didn’t like it. I loved ice-cream and cheese, but not milk. About 20 years ago I started have problems with my gut health. I was told I had IBS. Every day that I drove to school to go to work, by the time I arrived, I had to run into the bathroom. One year I realized my morning yogurt was the issue. So I cut out the yogurt. I then “decided” I must be lactose intolerant. That is, until recently. Part of my health research brought me to the topic of milk. I thought that organic milk still gave me problems until I realized I was still drinking the wrong type of milk. I heard a podcast about raw milk and A2 milk and it was a whole new world for me.  Honestly, I was afraid to try raw milk at first. I was scared of it - like I would get some kind of weird bacteria or something. Raw, unpasteurized milk comes straight from the cow. Yet, studies show the importance of raw milk’s nutrients that are often destroyed when mil...

Healthy Healing

It has been over 4 years now, going on 5, since Lee’s death. Since then, I have started my own healing journey. At first it was spiritual healing and focusing on my relationship with God. Then, it was emotional healing. Now, I am onto my physical healing journey. So, my blog will take a turn - focusing on what I am doing to keep ALL of me healthy - and hopefully you, too. One thing I won’t do is use AI. So, my writing won’t always be the best. I usually just type and press publish. It won’t be perfect, but it will be human. As I contemplated Lee’s death, I always wondered “why” Lee got glioblastoma. Of course, I won’t have the answer in this lifetime, but after years of research and reading, I have several thoughts: Cell phone use (it was on the right side of his head, where he held his phone) Toxins (as a carpenter he was exposed to SO many dangerous chemicals Environment (for Lee, he lacked a healthy sleep pattern) and Circadian Rhythm Diet In my health journey, I started with these ...

10 Ways Worship Heals the Soul and Mind

Worship isn’t limited to church or Sunday mornings. It can happen anywhere your heart turns toward God. For some, it’s through music and prayer. For others, it’s journaling, reading Scripture, or simply sitting in silence. Worship is a time, for me to give my attention to God - giving Him praise, glory, my thoughts, my heart. And while worship is for the Lord, it has benefits to our own soul.  For me, worship often looks like riding my bike. Out on the trails, surrounded by mountains and fresh air, I find peace. It’s there that my mind clears and my heart refocuses on God. Whether your worship happens through art, movement, nature, or stillness—what matters is connecting with the Lord who restores us. Here are 10 ways worship helps the soul and mind: 1. Brings Inner Peace Worship shifts our focus from stress to God . It quiets the noise and helps us rest in His peace. 2. Builds Resilience Hard days come, but worship reminds us that we’re never alone. It gives strength to keep goin...

Life Reset

Most of you who know me well, know that I try to live a healthy lifestyle. Recently, my mom and I drove to Texas to visit my son and we listened to podcasts - specifically Culture Apothecary. I love it! So much information. Now, I’m on a mission to make my life even more healthy. Perhaps some of it stems from watching Lee die from Glioblastoma. I am pretty convinced that he developed the tumor from exposure to chemicals during his job, or cell phone use. I will never know for sure - but according to all I’ve read, chemical exposure is definitely high on the list. Here are some things I’ve tried to implement lately: 1. Cutting out toxins. Do you know HOW hard it is to cut toxins from your environment? Almost impossible…they are everywhere…my rugs, furniture, cleaning supplies, food, toilet paper, paper towels, makeup and clothing. I could go on. I know I can’t cut all of them out, but I am trying to make a dent. I swapped my toilet paper (which is toxic, by the way) for bamboo paper, p...

Farmer Market Breakfast

I have so many people asking about my morning breakfast, I decided to type out the recipe and keep it in a blog this time to share easily! No, this isn’t my “only” breakfast - if you don’t find me eating this, then I have made a smoothie or oatmeal! But I would say this is 25 days out of the month. I just love it. I go to my local farmer’s market and find what is in season.  This is my favorite go-to: 24 Carrot Farm in Placerville. I did find out they are closing in December for a month so I’m going to have to find somewhere else for a little bit!  Here are my regular ingredients: 1 stalk Swiss chard 2 baby radish 1 carrot 1 garlic clove Small amount of high quality cheese 1 egg Chop up the chard, radish, garlic, and carrot. Keep the Swiss chard stalk! I eat it too. It adds a nice amount of crunch and tastes great. I use a Caraway pan on medium low or low heat. Add some high quality extra virgin olive oil. I get mine directly from the source in Sorrento, Italy. Lee and ...
Have you ever drifted off in a canoe? I have a hilarious memory of my mom and I in a canoe going down the Platte river in Nebraska. We both did not understand how to steer the boat and we constantly found ourselves turning around or running into the sand because the river was low at certain spots.  My son, Brett, use to live at a home where there was a quaint pond and we would just quietly drift - even though we couldn’t go more than a stone’s length! Have you ever noticed what happens when you drift? The water takes you wherever it is flowing. If you’re not paying attention, you’ll soon find yourself far from your starting point and away from your destination. Do you ever find yourself drifting in life? Perhaps you log into social media and you find yourself hours later in a different destination with no real purpose. Or maybe, like me, your thoughts drift. I have to purposefully try to stay on task because my mind loves drifting away and thinking about other things. Or may...
